The Chair of Econometrics at the University of Mannheim and the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED), Germany, are looking for a Post-Doc/ Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to join the team of impact evaluators. An excellent command in English is a must, French, Spanish, and/or Russian are expressly desired.
With a strong focus on quantitative impact evaluations, we are one of the leading research centers in the areas of poverty reduction, microfinance, health insurance, education, humanitarian assistance, and nutrition in Germany. Our vision is to improve the lives of the poor and the vulnerable by making development interventions more effective. C4ED currently conducts projects all over the world and maintains research relationships with 3ie, ACTED, IFAD, ILO, IPA, J-PAL, the World Bank, and UNICEF to name just a few of our cooperation partners.

Your tasks would include:

• Conducting experimental or quasi-experimental impact evaluation studies with a particular focus on Randomized Control Trials (RCTs)
• Report-writing, research and scientific publications in applied econometrics, statistics or survey methodology as well as reporting
• Application of and teaching in advanced applied econometrics, statistics or survey methods
•  Preparing grants and applications for projects
• Provide capacity building
• Conduct and oversee large-scale data collections (incl. high-frequency data checks)
•  Ensure project deliverables are prepared on time and are of high quality
• Closely cooperating with local partners
• Set-up monitoring systems
• Project management

Mit dem Gute-KiTa-Gesetz hat der Bund erstmalig ein Gesetz verabschiedet, das explizit zum Ziel hat, die Qualität der Kindertagesbetreuung in Deutschland zu verbessern. Dazu werden den Ländern, auf Grundlage von Verträgen der einzelnen Bundesländer mit dem Bund, Bundesmittel zur Verfügung gestellt. Die Bundesländer wählen aus zehn Handlungsfeldern aus und ergreifen Maßnahmen, zum Beispiel die Abschaffung von Kita-Beiträgen. Aber auch Handlungsfelder wie die Qualifizierung der pädagogischen Fachkräfte und andere werden adressiert. In einer ersten Zwischenbilanz sollen das Gesetz und die bisher erfolgten Schritte seiner Umsetzung diskutiert werden. Inwiefern werden die unterschiedlichen Verträge mit den Ländern dazu beitragen, dass die Kita-Qualität in Deutschland steigt? Ist zu erwarten, dass allen Kindern eine bessere frühe Bildung und Betreuung zur Verfügung steht? In die Diskussion werden auch Ergebnisse einer neuen DIW-Untersuchung zu den Wirkungen von Kita-Beitragsbefreiungen auf die Erwerbstätigkeit von Eltern eingebracht – die entsprechende Studie wird am Folgetag veröffentlicht. Nach einer Einführung werden im Rahmen der Podiumsdiskussion mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern des Bundes, der Kommunen, der Gewerkschaften und auch der Forschung unterschiedliche Perspektiven erläutert. Es diskutieren Bettina Bundszus vom BMFSFJ, Elke Alsago von ver.di, Jörg Freese vom Deutschen Landkreistag sowie C. Katharina Spieß vom DIW Berlin.

The ifo Institute, Dresden Branch, and the Technische Universität Dresden, announce the 10th ifo Dresden Workshop on Labor Economics and Social Policy taking place on May 7th–8th, 2020 in Dresden. The workshop aims at facilitating the networking of young scientists and at promoting the exchange of their latest research. This year, preference is given to papers estimating causal effects of family policies, measures reducing gender differences in education and the labor market, and means of integrating migrants into the labor market. We specifically encourage PhD students and post-doctoral researchers to submit their latest research. Each paper will be allocated 45 minutes, to be divided between the presentation, a discussion by an assigned workshop participant and a general discussion. The workshop will be held in English.

Please submit your (preliminary) paper by February 1st, 2020 via the workshop website. Alternatively, check the ifo website for forthcoming conferences. Acceptance decisions will be announced by March 31th, 2020.
