Recap: 2nd Berlin PhD Conference in Economics

From July 6–8, 2026, the 2nd Berlin PhD Conference in Economics brought together PhD researchers from around the world to present and discuss their work. The conference comprised two parallel workshops: Applied Microeconomics at WZB Berlin Social Science Center, and Microeconomic Theory and Behavioral Economics at Hertie School.

The conference aimed to strengthen academic exchange among researchers at an early stage of their careers. International participants presented their research, with each presentation discussed by PhD researchers from the Berlin School of Economics and affiliated institutions. Poster sessions showcased ongoing work by Berlin-based PhD students. Together, these formats offered opportunities for detailed feedback and exchange across institutions and research fields.

The program featured keynote lectures by Esmée Zwiers, Simon Jäger, Jeanne Hagenbach, and Botond Köszegi, alongside seminar presentations, poster sessions, and a joint conference dinner for participants from both workshops.

BeNA was pleased to support the conference alongside the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), through CRC Rationality and Competition and the DFG Research Unit “Labor Market Transformation,” and the Dr. Hans Riegel-Stiftung. We thank WZB Berlin Social Science Center and Hertie School for hosting, and all speakers, discussants, presenters, organizers, and participants for contributing to the conference
