Recap: BeNA Lecture Series on Recent Advances in Difference-in-Differences with Xavier D’Haultfoeuille

On October 5–6, 2026, BeNA welcomed Xavier D’Haultfoeuille, Professor of Economics at CREST-ENSAE, to the ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin. Across three lectures, he guided participants through difference-in-differences methods in both simple and complex research settings.

The series began with classical difference-in-differences designs, where treatment is binary and remains in place after adoption. It then moved to heterogeneous adoption designs, where treatment intensity varies across units and conventional estimates can be misleading. The final lecture on general designs explored how to study treatment effects when treatment changes in more complex ways. You can find the program here.

Alongside the lectures, Xavier gave a BAMS research talk on linear regressions with combined data. Student presentations and office hours provided further opportunities to exchange ideas and discuss ongoing research.

We thank Xavier and all participants for their contributions to the event. Special thanks go to Marco David Schmandt for organizing the event.
