The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research is pleased to announce the call for papers for its 21st ZEW Summer Workshop for Young Economists – Advances in Empirical Public Economics. The workshop will take place in Mannheim on 17-19 July 2019.

This year’s workshop will cover recent topics and methods adopted in empirical public economics. A particular focus will be on causal inference as well as structural methods in public policy evaluations. We particularly welcome empirical submissions from the fields of public finance and social policy as well as methodological contributions in tax policy and public policy evaluations in a broader sense.
David Agrawal (University of Kentucky), Eckhard Janeba (University of Mannheim) and Juan Carlos Suárez Serrato (Duke University and NBER) will give the keynote lectures.

Advanced doctoral students and postdocs who have completed their thesis within the last three years are invited to submit a paper. The ZEW Summer Workshop is open to a maximum of 15 participants. The IAB is organizing a one-day international workshop on “Labor Market Challenges in Times of Globalization, Technological, and Demographic Change” which will take place on May 29, 2019 at CERGE-EI in Prague, Czech Republic. Keynote speaker is Jan Svejnar, Columbia University.

The Munich Center for Economics of Aging (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy is looking to hire for two Post-Doc positions to start as soon as possible. For the economist position we are looking for someone that works on dynamic macroeconomics, the typical household / OLG models, and has some experience on numerical simulations and is also interested in public economics. The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is pleased to invite submissions for a workshop on “Vacancies, Hiring and Matching” in Nuremberg on October 1 and 2, 2019. In 2019, the IAB celebrates the 30th anniversary of the German Job Vacancy Survey, which has been collecting representative data on vacancies and hiring processes since 1989. Given that the nature of employers’ vacancy posting and hiring processes is an important, but still under-researched topic, the workshop’s objective is to discuss recent developments in the following research areas:
• Empirical research based on employer-level and/or vacancy data (also online vacancy data)
• Macroeconomic work dealing with vacancies, labor market flows or the matching process
• Other empirical studies on labor demand and the hiring of workers
• Methodological work discussing employer-level data collection and/or the measurement of vacancies
and labor flows

Researchers interested in participating should submit a full paper or an extended abstract to IAB.workshop-vacancies@iab.de no later than March 31st, 2019. Decisions of acceptance will be announced during May, 2019.
