Erwartet wird eigene wissenschaftliche Forschung und anerkannte Expertise auf diesem Themenfeld, um wirkungsvolle Impulse in der politischen Debatte setzen zu können. Dies gilt insbesondere für die Bereiche Außenhandel und dessen Regulierung, Globalisierung, transatlantische Handelsbeziehungen, europäische Wirtschafts- und Finanzpolitik, Kapitalismus oder soziale Marktwirtschaft.

Post-Doc position @ IAB, Nuremberg (in German)

Im Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung in Nürnberg ist ab dem 02. November 2020 im Forschungsbereich „Grundsicherung und Aktivierung“ die Stelle eines Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiters / einer Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiterin (m/w/d) in Vollzeit (vorzugsweise Postdoc) zu besetzen. Die Stelle ist zunächst bis zum 31. Dezember 2024 befristet.

Ph.D. position in Migration and Labor Economics @ RWI, Essen

RWI is inviting applications for a Ph.D. position (100%) in Migration and Labor Economics at its headquarter in Essen. The research group is part of the research unit “Labor Markets, Education, Population” at RWI and conducts research on the economic and social integration of immigrants as well as on the consequences of immigration for receiving countries.

IAB Conference: Labour Market Transitions

The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is happy to announce an interdisciplinary hybrid labour market conference. This conference will focus on various topics concerning labour market transitions and the evaluation of policies that governments implement to smooth such transitions. The conference will feature about 40 scientific paper presentations with 10 minutes presentation time each. The conference also considers the relevant perspective of high-level actors engaged in the European labour market policy. 

Scientific keynote speaker: Jutta Allmendinger | President of the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, and Christian Dustmann | University College London, Director of CReAM – Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration 

Dates: 7-9 September 2020

BeNA Guru Talk #7 took place on July 15 online

The seventh BeNA Guru Talk was held on July 15 2020 for the first time online The topic was “Working in International Organizations post-PhD” The Guru Talk addressed questions like: What career paths are possible for labor economists in IOs? What ways are there to enter these organizations? In which way is a PhD beneficial for the work at IOs? 

Melanie Khamis (Wesleyan University), Hannah Liepmann (ILO), Timo Leidecker (OECD) and Leo-Maria Löbel (ILO) joined as our gurus.

The panel discussion took place online and was unfortunately not followed by an informal get-together.

BeNA Online Summer Workshop took place on July 1, 2020

The last BeNA Summer Workshop took place on July 1,  2020 online.

Congratulations to Astrid Pape, who received the BeNA Innovative Research Award for her work.


It provides a forum to meet and exchange with fellow doctoral students, post-docs and professors from the field of labor
economics. The workshop is targeted at PhD students and aims to facilitate
exchange between junior and senior academics. This year, we are happy to
announce that Julia Schmieder (DIW Berlin) and Jan Nimczik (ESMT Berlin) will be our excellent guest speakers at the workshop.

We thank all participants and hope you will join us for the next workshop in winter 2020.

Job Duties:

  • Actively take part in the institute’s research activities
  • Actively take part in the teaching and examination activities at the institute, supervise students 
  • Provide support to manage the institute’s general administration activities
  • Conduct independent research
  • Independently teach university-level classes and hold examinations

Your Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree in a subject area in social or economic sciences
  • Possess expertise in the area of gender studies as part of social and/or economic sciences
  • Expertise in the field of “Work and Gender” is an advantage
  • Experience and skills working with quantitative or qualitative empirical research methods (preferably strong knowledge in both areas)
  • Professional teaching experience is highly desired but not required
  • High scientific research potential
  • Excellent English skills (level C1), German knowledge is desired (level B2)
  • A strong social skills and personal commitment are required.

ZEW Webinar on “COVID-19 and Inequality”

ZEW organizes, in cooperation with Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, and the Society for the Study of Economic Inequality, a special policy session of the ZEW Research Seminar to discuss several aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the intensification of inequalities from a global perspective with renowned experts on the topic.

The event will take place as a Zoom webinar on 19 June 2020 at 4pm CEST and is open to the public. It comprises 10-minute flash talks by the following speakers: Daniele Checchi (University of Milan), Mariano Tommasi (Universidad de San Andrés, Buenos Aires), Michèle Tertilt (University of Mannheim), Miles Corak (City University of New York) and Stephen Jenkins (London School of Economics), which will be followed by Q&A sessions.

CfP: BeNA “Online” Labor Economics Workshop – July 1, 2020

We are happy to announce that despite the Covid-19 virus, this year’s BeNA summer workshop will take place on July 1, 2020. Due to the current situation, the workshop will be held online.

The one-day workshop provides young labor economists the chance to present and discuss their recent research. The workshop is targeted at PhD students and aims to facilitate exchange between junior and senior academics. This year, we are happy to announce that Julia Schmieder (DIW Berlin) and Jan Nimiczik (ESMT) will be our excellent guest speakers at the workshop. We are looking forward to submissions from PhD students from Berlin and Brandenburg working on topics in labor economics from a theoretical, empirical or experimental perspective. Equally, we encourage the submission of work in early stages.

Deadline for submissions: extended to June 21, 2020

Please submit an abstract or a draft of your paper to workshop@labor-research.net. The decision on your submission will be communicated by June 22, 2020. Post-Doc in Public Economics @ MCC (in German)

Das Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) in Berlin sucht zum 15. Juni 2020 oder zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt, befristet bis zum 30. April 2023, eine/n wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in (Postdoc) im Bereich Public Economics mit Schwerpunkt Steuerreformen. Die hier ausgeschriebene Stelle widmet sich der Rolle von Steuerreformen im Energie- und Verkehrssektor im Rahmen des Verbundprojekts „Ariadne“. Sie ist Teil der Arbeitsgruppe Wirtschaftswachstum und menschliche Entwicklung (Leitung Prof. Dr. Matthias Kalkuhl) am MCC Berlin.
