The Berlin Network of Labor Market Research (BeNA) is pleased to announce a lecture series on October 9–10, 2025, by Peter Hull, Professor of Economics at Brown University. The lecture series will take place at DIW Berlin.
Peter develops and applies new empirical methods for policy-relevant questions in labor, health, and education economics. His recent work has advanced the econometric foundations of shift-share research designs and instrumental variables methods, with publications in Econometrica, Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Review, and Review of Economic Studies. In addition to his research, Peter serves as Coeditor of the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics.
This lecture series will provide an in-depth introduction to modern methods of shift-share instruments and recentered instrumental variables, combining both theoretical insights and empirical applications. In addition to the lectures, the program will include a research talk on applications of recentered IV. Throughout the two days, attendees will be able to sign up for office hours with Peter.
You can find the program here.
The BeNA Lecture Series is open to the public, but slots are limited. Please register until September 25, 2025 using the form below. In case of oversubscription, BeNA members and PhD students will be given priority.
Please contact Thomas Rieger (trieger@diw.de) if you have any questions.
We look forward to welcoming many interested researchers to the event!
