On September 10–11, 2025, the Berlin Network of Labor Market Research (BeNA) hosted a Skills Camp on Causal Machine Learning at Freie Universität Berlin. The two-day workshop was led by Philipp Bach (Assistant Professor of Econometrics, FU Berlin).

On the first day, participants were introduced to the idea of using machine learning as an estimation device for causal inference. Professor Bach presented Double Machine Learning as a general framework, followed by a hands-on session in which the typical implementation workflow in Python was demonstrated.
The second day focused on advanced applications, including Double Machine Learning for Difference-in-Differences, heterogeneous treatment effects, and sensitivity analyses in causal machine learning. Throughout the workshop, participants were encouraged to bring in their own research questions and datasets. This interactive format not only ensured a strong practical orientation but also allowed for in-depth discussions tailored to individual projects.

The Skills Camp combined methodological training with direct application, fostering a lively exchange among early-career researchers. It offered both valuable insights into state-of-the-art methods and a platform for networking and collaboration.
We would like to thank Professor Bach and all the participants for making this skills camp a success. A special thanks goes out to Lukas Fink and Timo Haller for the organization of the skills camp.
