On April 04/05 2013, Prof. Daniel S. Hamermesh gave the 2013 BeNA lecture series on “Discrimination: Theory, Measurement, Application and Policy” at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Daniel Hamermesh is Sue Killam Professor in the Foundations of Economics at the University of Texas at Austin and Professor of Economics, Royal Holloway University of London. He has published on a wide range of topics in top journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Labor Economics and Review of Economics and Statistics. His research has focused on labor demand, time use, discrimination and unusual applications of labor economcis (to suicide, sleep and beauty). The course gave the attendee a feel for several theories of discrimination and present issues of measurement. See flyer and reading list for more information.

The event was a great success and very well-attended. Most of the over 40 participants came from Berlin (students, PhD-students, and Post-Docs), but we also thank guests from Germany and abroad (France, Italy, Poland, Spain).
